Hello gents,
I have acquired, from the PO, the original western handlebars complete with cable guides for my Spitfire Scrambler. A little bit dull and cruddy but may polish up ok. I thought this would be a straight forward change-over but it looks like most of the cables will be too short as it’s currently fitted with flatter road bars and cables to suit. Bugger!

G'day Pete.
According to my parts book.
Throttle cable 42-8766
Clutch cable 42-8797
F brake 42-880
Ignition Adv/Ret if fitted 42-8804
Cheers

Thanks for the part numbers Musky. I’ve ordered a parts book which will be invaluable.
I’m not sure about these bars. In a comfortable position I don’t like the look side-on, they look too far forward (how they are set in most of the photos I’ve looked at) But when pulled back so the vertical (rise) of the bar is on the same plane as the forks they may be too close to be comfortable. Looks good though!
I guess I’ll get the original, longer cables so I can ride it and decide.

Quite like the look of these bars too but not sure of the rise & pullback measurements.

G'day Pete.
Just a tad wide for my liking but the shape is nice.
If using the longer cables on the road bars you can rout them to the other side of the steering head to use up the excess length.

After trying many different styles of bars I ended up fitting Notrun Commando bars to my SR and Sunbeam S7D. I had the stainless type and they give a really comfortable riding position. Only trouble was that stainless tube seems to be ever so slightly larger than 7/8" chromed so the twistgrip tubes needed a little fettling. Possibly the tube went a little oval after being in the bending machine.

PS They are not the ones shown on my avatar - must update it.

G’day again, whether I use the original western bars I have or the lower, wider ones pictured above I’ll need a longer (stock) clutch and brake cable. The throttle and A/R cables look long enough.
I found a NOS brake cable
(42-8802 for use with western bars) on eBay and a NOS clutch cable (42-8797) from Baxter. Just need to make sure at 57” it’s long enough. I’ll have to take mine off and measure it for a comparison.
Cheers,
Pete

Decided to go with these bars. A bit lower and wider than the standard western bars but seem comfortable. Personally I like the look and they only required a longer front brake cable.
