Title: My Scrambler project.
Post by: JulianM on 07.12. 2018 09:17
Resurrecting my Scrambler project as I can at last find time to do some private jobs.
I had to put it on the back burner for a while as I was too busy with the new company, but now we have settled I can get the odd Saturday to play.

List to do.
Change the front brake to Aluminium hub and TLS brake and fit 21" Aloy rim,  Already built up the wheel so hopefully fitting it tomorrow.
Fit 21" trials front tyre, hopefully tomorrow,
Change rear hub for full width Aluminium AMC with an adapted Triumph TLS and 19" Aloy Rim.  Already adapted the hub and brake, built up the wheel so hopefully fitting it tomorrow.  Also have a really nice 120/90x19 trials tyre to go on.
Lowering the rear 2"  Already done  (it just looked too modern with the high suspension)  Already done with new shocks.
Lower the front,  Will be done when re-fitting forks etc by sliding through yokes, hopefully tomorrow.
Make a new mudguard to fit the 21" wheel and tyre. May be able to modify the old one.
Make larger oil tank, present one only has about 1 3/4 Litres and I think that's too little for the modified engine.
Change mag gear to auto advance type. Actually already fitted but locked on full advance position. Need now to re-do it and re-time it.  You do need to hold on, and messing with the timing is not something you relish on this at WOT.
Hopefully that is it.
Will keep you posted and include some pics tomorrow.

Regards,
Julian

Hi all,

Sorry to be late but work................... *roll* *smile*

Lowered the rear about an inch and a half,  New Aloy rim spoked to an AMC Aloy hub, modified to fit and a Triumph TLS brake plate modified to fit that etc (not a recommended mod unless you like hard work) 19" Matas Trials tyre fitted,
Shinko trials front on a 21" alloy rim spoked to an Enfield ally TLS drum, all fairly simple here.  Modified the old mudguard to fit.
Bit more work to do but going forward ok.  Maybe finished on Saturday if I can manage some time on it.

Cheers, and a Happy BSA New Year to all.
Jules

Nice work Julian.
Still don't think the brakes will work like that. The cables are supposed to be connected to the brake lever. That's if you had one for the rear. *lol*
Cheers

Gorgious! Are you going to put that aero engine in a road vehicle? I've been to Shelsley Walsh vintage Hill climb a few times. There are some awesome cars with aero engines roaring up that hill!

Well, yes but no but.

It is a Vedeneyev M14P,   9 cylinder Radial, the model was first built in 1940 but this is a later engine of about 350 hp depending on boost.  11 litre Supercharged
I am intending to remove all of the cylinders, and fit them to a newly made crankcase etc,  probably stretch the stroke while I am doing it and get it to about 14 Litres, still supercharged but probably with more boost than standard just for fun and make a rather interesting Edwardian type racer out of it.  I will not claim however that it is original and a lost wonder. It will be the only 9 cylinder in line that I have ever heard of so should be a giggle if nothing else.   BSA first, Laverda 750 race bike, then a little bit of work on my N15CS to stop it wet sumping and to change the handlebars and a few odds and sods to make that one perfect.
Then, I could do the "9" if nothing else gets in the way.
So best not to hold your breath just yet.  :o)
