Title: Iridium spark plugs
Post by: a101960 on 17.05. 2019 11:05
I have read that resistor spark plugs can give the magneto a hard time. I would like to replace my standard plugs with iridium plugs, but the only equivalent is NGK BR7EIX a resistor plug. Would this be OK or would it lead to mag failure? I have seen on Youtube a way to convert resistor plugs to not resistor plugs which entails heating the plug, unscrewing the top and removing the resistor and substituting a length of copper wire. Has anyone actually done this?

I used Denso IW22 iridium plugs in the alloy A10 for about 2 years. Bike really liked them and seemed to run cleaner. Mag did not mind them either.

However the plugs did not seem to like the mag and over those years 8 plugs failed, maybe the high mag voltage did for them?. They are expensive and at that rate of attrition were unaffordable. Now back to non iridium plugs.

Anyone who thinks resistor plugs or plug caps make no difference should read the Brightspark website.

G'day a101960.
Seems silly paying all that money for an iridium plug and then have to pull it apart and modify it. For around the same price the NGK B8EGV gold palladium  is non- resistor plug I used in my A7SS racer.
Cheers

Mythbusting... Iridium plugs don't perform any better than normal plugs,
They just last longer.

G'day Jools.
That's why I put Iridium in the rear bank of the wife's V6 Magna (normal in the front). Recommended replacement 100,000Km (2 hour job).
I dobn't know if EGV's last any longer. Mine did only 50 -60 miles before the bin on the racer. Plugs are cheap winning is better !!!!
Cheers
