Post by: Caretaker on 03.01. 2020 12:02
G'day Fellas.
Well it got me!!!!! House and shed gone. Just got out in time, had very little warning.

For some time ahead, we can use the forum's paypal account.
I will take care of transfering amounts at end of each month, more often if needed.

https://www.a7a10.net/paypal.htm

And starting with 50 usd from me.
Will list the amounts, if you do not want your initial\name here, please pm me.
Thanks
e.

I hope this is ok to put in a few words here.

A lot of members have given very generous donations which is very kind but if you are only able to donate a small amount please do, lots of small amounts add up.

If you donate to a charity we all know only a percentage ever gets to those that really need it, with the donations here 100% will go to the person who needs help.

Remember that Muskrat and his wife have lost almost everything. You like me are most likely sitting in a chair in your home reading this, Muskrat doesnt have a home or a chair anymore, he has almost nothing.

Every little bits helps.

Paypal chops off around 5%, I'll put in the difference at transfer time so it'll be back to 100%.

And yes, a good dose of smaller amounts very welcome, can add up to a substantial amount.

I note Caretaker refers to 'transfer time'. Presumably that'll be some months away as funds keep coming in. Has anyone been in contact with Musky to see if he needs immediate cash?

50 USD from me, sorry forgot to write Muskrat in message...
Sitting in Cold and wet Denmark I cannot imagine how the situation is, only a bit... as a young lad of 22 i was an exchange farmer in NSW Warren area in 1976 and was involved in  controlling a bushfire in the area. but notting on this scale.
I also have a son and living in California. his wifes family lives in the Sonoma Valley area, which was also stricken hard by fire.

Joergen

I note the donations are towards a rebuild but, as Musky was selling the property, why would he rebuild it just to sell it? Surely he’d be better off putting whatever he has / gets towards a new abode?
But I return to a previous comment – does he have immediate needs, eg tools of trade or even living expenses? I doubt logging onto the forum is foremost in his mind at present, so does anyone have contact details (email / cellphone) for him that they could enquire of his situation and how best we could help?

But must say am somewhat concerned, we used to be in contact regularly.

But let's give it some time, surely handling essential survival\safety conditions comes first.
The donations and all the support here will be a postive and useful discovery when he gets back online.

G'day fellas.
WOW, it feels so good to be part of such a generous group. I an eternally greatfull for your support.
I had no idea of the amount raised and was flabbergasted to see it in my account. This covered the bond/security on the rental that had to come out of my personal funds ($2400AU). At the end of the day I should have it refunded and then used to purchase special BSA tools etc.
I have received a few $K from disaster relief and the Red Cross to get essentials. Food and clothing donations have also been received.
Looking on the bright side. The fire has saved us about $6000 in removalist costs when we move up to Lithgow. All we've got will fit on the ute and trailer!
Thanks so very much to the wonderful members of the Forum.
Cheers

I can’t imagine being in your position muskrat. You seem to have a positive outlook which is great. I’m sure I speak for a few people when I say I wish there was more I could do to help rebuild your lives practically, but when it’s the other side of the world a cash donation is the next best thing. It’s a little for the long road ahead. Wishing you well for your new ventures 👍🏻

Hi Musky, I hope you and the missus are holding up OK, this all too frequent bush fire battles in OZ are a difficult thing to deal with. So many people I know have been hit with these.
To just name a few, so as you know that people have your back and heart in the times ahead.
My mum was sooo lucky to escape Black Saturday (Marysville) - handbag of stuff and a clean pair of underwear.
My Dad, (now deceased) even more lucky, the house spontaneously combusted as he watched it, Black Saturday (Kinglake)- Got a ute and trailer load of stuff out as the general store BBQ gas bottles exploded across the road in front of him. I’ll always remember his first quote, as I finally got to speak to him, (he was a notorious hoarder of good stuff, but mostly crap stuff), “ I really couldn’t have cleaned it up any better, but unfortunately now I only have one pair of socks”.
I hope you and family manage to travel through these times well, I also hope to meet you someday in person, with beers and talk over all things BSA.
Nearly forgot, I also also got snagged by the bushfires, 2014 Sth Gippsland farm, no huge personal or livestock loss but a financial loss nonetheless.
Love your humour and hope it stays intact, give us a few updates as you get time, we’re all on side MATE.
Thomas.

Every day (100 times) I say "I used to have one of those"! With your help I am starting to get a few things back.
Deb and I just put a deposit on a house in Lithgow and should be in, in a few months. Looking forward to setting up the shed.

G'day Fellas.
Well today Deb and I travel up to Lithgow to start work on our new (80yo) home. Rip up the carpet then decide how much to replace and how much floor boards to polish. Organize a few tradies  for painting and roof repairs. Got about 3 months to fix it up then move in. Can't wait to start setting up the shed.
Cheers

Judging by the images I found on the net it makes me think of the Belgian Ardennes
Should be some nice roads there.
