Hi mates
I hope I can ask this question as it is similar to my 1954 Road Rocket, I have just bought a 1955 BSA CB500 Goldstar, the clutch / chain wheel basket is out of line , it is a floating type, the clutch inserts were pushed in (or out) allowing the c/ wheel to go too far in, this would happen if the pressure plate/s was bearing on the basket and pushing it, can't really see anything except the basket is fairly worn where the plain plates contact , any idea if this would cause it----all the best and Stay safe Barry

It is possible to mismatch parts.
The 1956 models A7 A10 B31 and B33 had a different primary drive line to the earlier standard models and all the Gold Stars.
For 1956 non Gold Stars had the chainline about 1/8 inch further out to allow sufficient space for the tin rear chaincase to clear the gearbox. This was achieved using a different clutch sleeve and different cush drive bearing.

Thanks for that, I pushed the inserts back to near normal and the c/wheel was near enough in line, Went to order a puller off ebay for 6 spring clutch, but my external thread ( on sleeve?) is 30 mm ( 1 3/16") 26 tpi, but ones on ebay are 1 1/4",, what do think of that? all the best----Barry

RE;; out of line ,, the last plain plate was worn in a bit on the splines shoulder,, thinking of putting shim of around 30-40 thou' on the spline area to make up for it, what do you think?
