Title: Forum speed check
Post by: Caretaker on 14.12. 2020 14:56
Hello, at he the bottom of page there will be a "Page created in x seconds with x queries", showing how fast the server 'gather the bits' to show a page for anyone accessing some forum address.

Just to check how it's behaving from different parts of the world, could I get a few reports? Just copy\paste the line into a post after accessing the forum main page (Home).

Quite typical from here (N): Page created in 0.024 seconds with 12 queries.

Thanks

Page created in 0.044 seconds with 16 queries.

Page created in 0.039 seconds with 16 queries. After turning on AVG VPN service

Page created in 0.03 seconds with 13 queries. I clicked the refresh button.

I'm using Firefox BTW.

After refreshing the page multiple times, the average is about 30ms, (I think 0.030 is 30 ms).

Thanks for the replies, confirms (my hopes) that the webhosting \ database server reacts very well from wherever it may be accessed.

For the record, 'we' are located in Denmark. Not that location matters anymore, as the main international internet connections have reached galactic speeds. And locally, what a difference from when it all started, not that many years ago, many here surely remember the exhilaration of discoveries using 128kb (or even 28kb) dial-up :O)

G'day e.
I'm just glad I don't have to wait up till 2 am to ring England and order parts. Then ring back 15 minutes later to get the price! A 5 minute call back then cost $5 = $50 in todays money.
Yes I remember being able to make a cuppa in the time to load a page on the pc.
Cheers

Poll from some time ago > https://www.a7a10.net/forum/index.php?topic=15052.0

In Norway, 4g wifi 30 to 60 Mb.
In France 4g wifi 2 to 8 Mb (moving 25m from the house getting 30 to 50 Mb).
Both countryside. Stability of a basic service most important, speed comes second.
Forum loads close to instant in both locations.

I should redo my vote on that poll. At the time I suffered to get 5Mbs but as it went from bad to worse I complained to my provider.
Luckily my next door neighbour had the same problems so our provider replaced the entire telephone cable from the distribution cabinet to our homes. According to the engineers the old one had been in the ground since the 1960ies...  *eek*
With the new cable we're now between 40 and 50Mbs all the time

12 kb in my Amiga days accessing bulletin boards using terminal software, (this was before the Worldwide Web and browsers). It took 30 minutes of telephone time to download an archived game that when unpacked fitted on a 880k floppy disk.

G'day Fellas.
Big difference between a speed test and actually downloading a movie. Speed test gives me 53/19mbs, downloads come in at about 7.5mbs. I cave the old copper phone line from the house to the optic box 100 meters away.
Cheers

^^^ yes, speedtests shows what the connection is ideally capable of, but what some fileserver\website far away may be able to deliver is another story.

From the feedback here (and lack of complaints) looks like all forum users are 'well served'.
Important to know, thanks.
