I have bought an oil filter that is designed to fit into the toolbox. A neat solution so I thought, this being a good time since I am checking everything fits before going to the painters. The filter supplier provided a template to fit into the box to drill the holes in the back for fixing screws and the oil hose. Simple to follow, I fitted the template and drilled the holes. All looked fairly neat, see photo.
Not wanting to be caught out after painting, I fitted the tool box with the hoses only to find the hoses are pinched by the rear mudguard, see second photograph. The hoses may be ok for smaller mudguards but I have the valanced ones appropriate for the 1961 Golden Flash.
Before I started any drastic action, I contacted the supplier who assumed I had left out the rubber block from the mudguard fastening that sit below the battery. I have not, but my block is old and almost certainly a little squashed, so I removed it and fitted a spacer about the right thickness. Better but one of the hoses is still pinched so this is not the whole solution.
So guys, can I get some advice on the next steps. These are ones I have thought of so far none of which I am overly keen.
1. Put a small dent in the mudguard so the hose is not pinched and fit a new (thicker) mudguard rubber block.
2. Drill a new hole in the toolbox for the pinched hose. This would mean cutting the internal division. Also I already have several holes in the back of the toolbox, and I am not too keen to get more.
3. Remove the internal division of the toolbox and reposition the filter and hose holes.
4. Put the oil filter somewhere else (under the battery?)

I removed my division altogether to make more room, not wanted now I have gone over to a DVR2.

One mention of the hoses being fouled by the mudguard, wish I had seen this before drilling. Seems that I am not alone and I will feed this back to the supplier. Seeing oil filters under the carburettor makes me realise this is not the look I am going for.
I did look for relevant threads on this forum but failed to find that one. This forum probably contains all the information you will ever need written down by the very best experts on A7 and A10s. I wish there was a way to organise it. But great to have access to such a wealth of experience.
Roy’s solution looks very neat. I have put electronic ignition on too and was wondering where the best place to fit the coil. So it is out with the partition and in with all the bits and bob’s.

Hello Roy. I did the same thing as jhg and your fittings look like the way to go. How have you fixed your DVR to the top of the tool box and are HT leads long enough for the right cylinder?

I used a (IGNITION LEAD REPAIR CONNECTOR JOINER FOR 8MM 7MM LEAD HT LEADS) to lengthen the HT leads.

I am confused , nothing new there, RoyC what is the box of tricks next to the oil filter and why or what has it got to do with HT leads that feed the plugs straight from the mag *conf2*

Keith, he did mention electronic ignition, and that other unit in the toolbox looks suspiciously like an ignition coil.

The box of tricks next to the oil filter is the coil for the electronic ignition.
Mag is no longer in use.

Hello Roy. Thanks for ht info. I have purchased the same. I have,removed partition and made a bracket for coil and filter. Before I drill more holes in tool box can you clarify the oil pipe routing. In your pic do the pipes go up in front of the rear mudguard and over the battery shelf? Thanks. Alan

Might be a silly question - but - I will need to remove the partition soon. I was going to do that when I fitted the screw-on oil filter like Roy's. However I could not work out how to cut out the partition. I have ordered an electric start kit from Steve McFarlane (it is in transit) and will need to accommodate a larger 12 Volt battery, and convert to DVR2 voltage regulation, so presumably routing the hoses will have to change. There was very little clearance to rout the hoses with the standard battery.
How did you guys manage that without damage to the tool box?

Work still in progress to fit filter and coil but to date:
I cut through partition with my dremel cutting wheel and a steady hand. If you look at Roy's photos you can see the top part of partition is still there so you don't damage the tool box. I have left part of the bottom as well. My partition was tacked in a couple of places to the back of box so cut above that and dressed all rough cut edges with dremel grinding wheel. I used the obsolete partition to make a bracket for the coil. Hope that
helps. I have a 12v gel battery which is bit smaller than my original so I hope there will be more room for oil pipes.

I did not now that Dremel have a cutting wheel *bright idea*. I looked at Tin Snips, angle grinders etc but not for long. No way you could get anything decent in there. I have a Dremel, just need to get some cutting wheels. *work*

I tried sending pics of attachment but not accepted as too large.
I have a dremel 3000 and on the dremel paperwork I have part nos are SC402 and SC456. I'll send pics if I figure out how to up load them.

Managed to load photos of my tool box and the dremel attachment. Ignore the two large holes at the top of the toolbox. These were the location of the oil pipes as per supplied template. Unfortunately one of them was right up against the rear mudguard. Should have checked before drilling!!
You can see the top and bottom bits of the partition still in place.
