Title: BSA B33 Iron barrel / head
Post by: Guy Wilson on 07.03. 2021 09:29
Does the B33 iron engine have a head gasket? I feel I bit silly asking but then I can't find them online and a friend says they may not have them?

Guy there's no head gasket but to resemble you should lap the spigot to the head with some fine valve grinding paste.,ie smear a bit around the spigot (rag down the barrels if the piston is still in there), sit the head on at about the right orientation, give it some backwards and forwards turns  until the mating surfaces look evenly grey indicating smooth even contact. then clean it very well. it doesn't take long. then bolt together tightening head studs with double spanners evenly until 'very tight'.
you don't need anything between the surfaces but to calm my nerves once i used some copper head gasket spray adhesive as it was on the shelf. but not necessary.

Thanks Mike, that's very good advice. torque settings are per the M20!
