Good Evening All
I am new to this forum - and will post an introduction properly shortly.
I am looking for a set of crankcases for an A10 Plunger (1954). Any leads would be gratefully received.
Kind regards
Tom

G'day Tom *welcome*
BritTwit in the US had a set of earlier (same ex for #) cases. https://www.a7a10.net/forum/index.php?topic=16009.0

*welcome* Tom, where are you?
-
Hi both,
Thanks for the quick reply - I'm based in the UK, more specifically Leicestershire. I'll certainly consider having some shipped over if there is no option closer to home.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom, I have a pair of matched 1950 plunger cases if that's of any interest. I m based in Hessen in Germany.
-
Hi Jonny,
Sounds great. Are the 50's cases the same as the 54?
Can you please inbox me with how much you are looking for, for them? I take it they're in fairly good condition?
Many thanks
Tom

I think that you will find that 1950 cases don't have the relief oil feed to the timing gears and cam tunnel.
-
That's correct Trev. They don't have a crankshaft oilseal either. Case series for later engines is BA. AA Series is the Unicorn variety..... I'm wondering why our new member Tommo is in need of cases, has another major disaster occured? Unless its a desperate need these cases still turn up from time to time on ebay, so worth waiting for.

Hi~ I am new to the forum too, I just bought a 1952 golden flash and it came with a set of matching crankcases. I am in Plymouth UK just in case! I would want £150 for them. Number on them is BA10 14365.

Thanks for the reply - no major disaster fortunately. I bought a plunger frame/forks/wheels which I've been tinkering with (powder coated the frame black, stainless spokes in the wheels etc). It didn't come with an engine so that's the next logical step.
Resto_man, I think I know the A10 you purchased - was it on eBay a month or two ago? I spotted it came with a spare bottom end.
Would you take 120 if I came to collect?
Many thanks
Tom

Hi Tom Yes your right that's the bike I bought, just needed putting back together. Yea right!!!!!
I want £150 as that's what they seem to be going for, they are in verygood condition no damage and all threads good. If your interested give me your email and I can send you some pictures. I did try putting some on here but it said file to big or something?
Cheers Tony

Thanks! I've sent you a DM.

Swarfy, why do you say AA series cases are rare?
Only used on short stroke A7 in 1951-52 but not particularly rare.
-
Trev, You will find AA7 Cases a' plenty for sure, but you won't find a genuine AA10 Crankcase, so my comment was a bit tongue in cheek and posted as a bit of light relief.....
For a rebuild any plunger A7 or A10 cases will do as the castings are identical. Later cases have improvements to the design but early ones work well enough for most folks.
Get finance arranged Tommo. You'll need a big journal crank, pistons, rods, thick flange barrel, alloy head. rocker box and a SRM pump, timing gears, maggy, dynamo and carb. as well as the cases. Compare this to a complete engine unit which may or may not (lucky find) require major work and you can see that buying a lump works out a good deal cheaper. Horses for courses, depends what you want, a nice leisure machine or an out and out screamer with all the bells and whistles.

You're not wrong. Buying an engine (or bike!) in the manner of Johnny Cash's Cadillac takes time, effort and too much money.
It's buying all the little incidental doo-dads that soon mount up to big money, so I'd always buy a near complete unit (even worn out) in preference.
Are bare cases really making £150 now...? *eek*
-
Thanks guys - interesting reading. Fortunately, I have most the components other than cylinders and a magneto. I bought a job lot incredibly cheap which had most of the internals, including a crank, and the outer cases.
Whilst it probably isn't the most efficient way of doing things, it makes it quite fun to slowly build things up into a full bike.
I'm also looking for:
Centrestand
Footpegs
Brake pedal
Rear mudguard
Toolbox
Petrol tank
Cylinders
A nice chap in Aus has parts available which I will use if necessary, however if any are available closer to home it would be preferable.
Kind regards
Tom

Hi Tom.
You're ok on that one. I'm searching for a pair of really early 'AA7' (hint hint) cases with as low a number as possible, so I know how frustrating it can be. Good luck

Chaps
Thanks for the pointers.
Muskrat - you're safe. I picked the cases up that were offered to me by Tony (RestoMan_63) so I'm all sorted now thanks.
Still looking for the below items:
Hinged rear mudguard
Footpegs
Battery carrier (who isn't looking for one!)
Toolbox
Petrol tank
Brake pedal pivot
Kind regards
Tom
