Title: Speedo gear retaining pin
Post by: Minto on 01.06. 2021 18:15
Having just dropped the lump and gear box back into the frame of my plunger, and refilled the gearbox with fresh oil I have noticed a drip which seems to be coming from the speedometer driven gear retaining pin 67 3176 (it's always dripped a bit but I thought it was from the outer cover gasket).
I've looked at various pictures and diagrams and it would seem to me that I am ok to just withdraw this with the idea of fitting either a small fibre washer or o ring. If I unscrew this and withdraw it completely is everything going to stay where it should be until put it back in again? From the couple of photos (eBay listings) I've looked at, it doesn't seem to me that anything will fall out or fly off, just after a bit of reassurance.
Thanks all
Jase

Slacken off the nut on the speedo drive spindle carrier. The retaining pin will not then be under load and should unscrew relatively easily. No problem, everything will stay in place. As for a seal, Loctite or a fibre washer should do, later parts books show a washer but no part number! Early catalogues show no seal at all. The pin acts as a stop when you retighten the nut on the speedo spindle carrier.....
