On Sunday morning I attended a VMCC meeting. One of the bikes in the car park was this Egli Vincent. Do we like it?
-
dunno about 'we' GB, but I do!
-
YUMMMMM
-
Bloke I know has been trying to sell his egli in nz for some time, price is “up there” for nz I suspect....I’m not sure if he has managed to sell it yet

I suspect it was the fastest bike in the car park! Bit too big a beast for me and probably more attractive from the other side.
-
Nice, though not her prettiest side eh.

There's just something NICE about a Vincent in my book..
This one was photographed at a Adelaide toy run a couple of years ago.. *smil* *loveit*

a few more pix, both sides all angles, from the emporium of the late Patrick Godet, Vincent specialist and all round good guy here in France . . .

Patrick dropped by here with his 1300cc much-modified machine with huge sidecar designed to take his ever-present 140lb Newfoundland hound. He is much missed.

Vincents have never really been my bag (get me coat?). I can't really even say why - and it's not even as if I don't have an enthusiasm for the V twin layout. Would have liked a Brough mind.

I didn't take the photo.
-
Original Vincents looked good (in my opinion) but not this one. Tank, stays, seat ........
-
I agree. I don't know why some people fit them out like a modern bike, and changing it's visual "character" in the process.
If you want a bike with a huge touring rack and indicators there must be a million more suitable (and much cheaper) bikes to choose from.
-
I don't think you can improve on the looks of a standard Vincent, apart from those black prince/knight things.
Having said that, I wouldn't kick the Egli out of bed.
-
a quick question ... I've noticed several Vincents with this red devil metal emblem on the front guard...
Does anyone know the history of it's origin? *????*
-
think it's a bike custom shop in italy

In the early years of WW2 the second raid by the fledgling SAS was by a company of particularly fierce and effective Scots on a German radar installation on the French coast.
It was a great success; probably the first one by the allies at that stage of the war.
Only eight SAS members were lost; the RN evacuated the majority of the raiding party back to Portsmouth with most of the bits of the radar equipment (as planned).
The Scots took a heavy toll of the Germans, who described the raiding party as "Red Devils".
-
And there was a reciprocal raid early in the war on the "Sound Radar" installation on the southern side of the Isle of Wight. The German raiding force was much larger and it was apparently initially thought to be an advance party for the anticipated German invasion though there has never been an official report of what happened AFAIK.
Apparently no prisoners were taken and no raiders reached the shore, but reports turned up in the local IoW press for years afterwards describing aspects of it.
One woman said her dad was traumatised for evermore after being in the crew of an in-shore patrol boat repeatedly speeding back and forth through the soldiers flailing around in the water... *eek*
