Title: Who remembers . . . brake switch
Post by: Brandis on 24.07. 2022 20:48
. . .the first BSA break light switch?   How long did they stick with it?

Good ol' 280 really is a time capsule.  Stuff I hadn't seen since the our Triumph guys tried to beat those BSA guys on the long straight dead end road in Negril, Jamaica.  '79 and '80' I believe.  I was riding a Jamaican Self Defense Force Triumph TRW.   I never stood a chance with that old flat head twin.  But I taught me most of what I still know about bikes.

I don't think that BSA had a brake switch until the early 50s, then it was an option.
Looks like someone adapted a switch from something else.

I see old photos with and without.  I wonder if the US gov't insisted on brake light on imports.  They have a history of this on vehicles.  The DOT sets safety standards and importers have to comply. Headlight brightness, stopping distance and such.
It's a nice set up for an amateur job.  Any 47 A& owners care to comment ?
