Title: What is this? Bracket near swingarm
Post by: SPT on 25.08. 2022 07:56
New to the forum and been an 1961 A7 SS owner for a few months. It’s currently undergoing repairs after the clutch shaft nut unwound itself. Almost back together. Noticed the nuts holding the swing arm were loose so swing arm had side to side movement. While investigating that and to get to the big nut on the RHS to tightens swing arm, I’ve noticed this. There is a bracket behind it that is not connected to anything and flopping around on the swing arm. What is and what should it be doing? Thank you! Simon.

Hard to say but the only thing that should be there is just above your finger there should be a bracket welded to the frame that locates the rear brake cable, if that is missing then maybe it is a previous owners fixture for holding the rear cable but the cable runs in front of the frame not behind.

It's hard to see it in the photo, but the brake cable bracket is there. Is there the same mounting point on the left side? If so, I would say some kind of custom location for pillion or rear-set pegs. If only on the right, as Bikerbod said, or, maybe, a custom attachment point for a sidecar,  preferred by a PO on the right.

Thanks for the input. Looking at the frame images in the spare parts lists, the lug this bolt goes through must be a later addition. The brake cable routing is probably not as it left the factory but works. So this bolt and bracket is coming off.
