Title: My centre stand helpers
Post by: bikerbob on 25.08. 2022 16:16
The lever you can see is made of aluminum tube about 25mm dia 3mm thick it is spring loaded and fits where the inflator goes alongside the tool box. The stand has a extensin welded to it to accomodate the lever needless to say this has to be welded properly as there is quite a load on it. Also you will see that I have fitted an extra fold down lifing handle which fits onto the front bolt of the original lifting handle, I had to do this as with a top box fitted you cannot use the original handle. The piece of wood is 300mm+200mm +20mm thick it is a bit of MDF florring and fits easily into the top box. Both helpers work very well I prefer to use the bit of wood as it takes very little effort to get the bike onto the stand. The lever works well but you have to balance on your left leg while you use your right leg to operate the lever a little bit awkward for me. I am 80 years old and weigh about 11!/2 stone, I can still get the bike on the stand without the use of the helpers but it  is quite an effort. The idea of the lever I got from someone on this site some years ago he gave the correct  dimensions. I also now always use the side stand whenever I am getting on or off the bike or when putting it on or off the stand I fell much more secure.

I was going to ask "Why?" but the six stone and six year difference between us may explain it. You are an inspiration, sir, for those of heading in your direction.

Actually, I don't understand the wood.

You roll the bike onto the wood lifting the back wheel up so making it easier to get onto the stand.
