Hi,
Does anyone have a close up pic of the rear brake actuating lever and return spring?
The spring I got I am sure is the correct one (42-6046) but I cannot figure out how it is fitted. I have attached a few pics in the hope that someone might see what I am doing wrong.
Additionally, as i looked back through the parts list it seems I might be missing the rear brake outrigger strap 67-6046. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks in Advance
Dave

G'day Dave.
The spring you have is the one go's on the pedal to frame.
According to Drags site the 55 s/a doesn't have on at the brake plate! https://tinyurl.com/y8prr67c
The first model to have the spring at the brake plate was the 1965 A50/65 p/n 41-6031 https://tinyurl.com/269rwdam

This is all getting confusing. I got the spring from Drags and talked to them over the phone before ordering. Looking at the link you sent, which is the same one I used, it does list 42-6046, but it is not illustrated. I assumed it was just left out of the drawing.
The parts book does show the spring on the rear brake plate. I shall look tomorrow and see if the spring will fit on the pedal to frame fulcrum.

G'day Dave.
I only have a later parts book that doesn't show it. I see yours does and Drags drawing is missing it.
That's why good homework is essential.

It gets more and more confusing! Part of the "fun" I think! I will see if the spring I bought fits at the pedal end tomorrow and if works there I will leave it like that. The part # is called out on the Drags drawing, but the spring itself is not illustrated, possibly to keep the drawing uncluttered. I don't know, just a guess.
Thanks for the help.

Dave. The outrigger strap 67 6046 appears on the early S/A single sided rear wheel 1954/55. The return spring wraps round the brake plate cam spigot and acts against the strap and the brake lever. Looks like the set up you have there. My parts catalogue shows 67 6046 as the strap, and curiously 42 6046 as the spring. Page 52, 1954-'57 Edition. 42 Series parts generally apply to S/A Models, tho' earlier parts carried over still use the 67 prefix. The catalogue lists the spring as 42 6046, which makes the spring part number designation correct. Whether your purchase is actually a spring that fits is a different matter....
So good luck with sorting that one out!!!

Thanks Swarfy,
Things are a bit clearer now with the pics and your explanation. I will order the strap and see how it goes then. At least it all makes sense now.

Thanks very much for the pics. It is all clear now. I am going to order the strap and see how things go. Looks like I will also have to investigate the brake arm as well.
