Title: Chaincase Oil Seal renewal
Post by: farmboyuk on 16.03. 2007 10:44
Hi,
I'm wanting to change my chaincase oil seal as I have my gearbox off at the moment (1952 GF). I've a replacement seal but despite much effort I cannot force it between the 2 plates. My question is do I need to seperate the plates and replace with new rivets or is there a easier way?

Many Thanks for any information.

The ones I've seen come as an assembly with the plates (66-7520), that might be an easier option.

Hello, by using force on the seal you may damage it so do not try too much to squeeze it in. I did this a long time ago, but I seem to remember the following: I drilled out the rivets, and replaced with small bolts or screws with loctite on the nuts. And added a thin layer of some gasket compound or silicone all around and in between the seal\plate.

See 100 - 103 here: rivets, oil seal washer, oil seal, oil flinger http://www.a7a10.net/BSA/techpics/crankdrivescan.jpg

Hi, thanks for the advice. I've done as you've suggested and used small screws/nuts + loctite, hopefully it should be due for kicking over in the next week or so.

Cheers
