Title: Torque values
Post by: alanaitch on 16.01. 2010 14:27
Hi all
Does anyone have a list of recommended torque values for the majority of fixings on the bike.  At the moment, I'm particularly interested in those for the gearbox outer cover and the primary chaincase.
Thanks
Alan

does this mean you are going to use socket head studs instead of screw type like the originals on the primary cover, if so I would suggest you use a screwdriver that takes hex bits and just tighten as you would a screwdriver unless your real name is Dan and you like cow pies.
The gearbox outer cover is not likely to warp but you could strip a thread if you got carried away with the four nuts, ( replacement studs are readily available), I just go by feel on these as they do not need to be over tight to seal the gearbox.
Millions of years of evolution have given you a body linked to a brain in such a way as to be very adept at measuring by feel - trust yourself and Darwin  wink2

All the best - Bill

I do mine up with a cordless drill set at the highest torque setting.
Oddly enough it works.
the case dosn't leak & the threads have not stripped.
As I have said thousands of times, the numbers are not important. What is important is that they are all the same, or close to it.

Search "webseuem" that should bring up a link to a site with period videos of both the BSA & the evil step sister Triumph"s assembly line. Not a tension wrench to be seen, not even for the bod doing up the heads nor fitting the barrels
