Title: The inside of the magneto, should there be a spring ?
Post by: Stephen Arsenal on 20.03. 2010 17:15
Bike 97% ready, last question, the inside of the magneto, should there be a spring or something contacting the silver screw on the outside to the inside gubbings?. A cable should then go from the outside screw to the cut out switch ? My mechanic guy put my bike on you tube under BSA 1959 golden Flash,is only 59 seconds but it sounds great.

Hi Steve... Yes there should be a small spring holding a carbon brush, very similar to the pickups. The carbon brush is then pushed onto the centre nut by the spring to enable earthing and cut out.

Thanks LJ,you would´nt by chance have a picture or diagram of the missing spring/brush by any chance?(rough Dali/Picasso would suffice) cheers-steve

There you go, just had a K2F disassembled for overhaul today...

Not quite Dali or Picasso, more of Ansel Adams (well, not really)  ;)
brush diameter 5mm
The cut out button connects the points plate fixation bolt to earth via this brush to stop the engine.

Cheers, Markus
