Does anybody have any hints, tips or suggestions for a rear brake on a plunger GF that shudders like mad when applied - the drum doesn't seem warped at all.

Hi, have you checked fitment of sliding brake plate stop? I had a problem with this as brake plate would chatter as I applied rear brake ,Also as this is a recent rebuild I would also suggest running bike for a while to let everything settle into place,I reckon at least 1500 miles on a rebuild on any bike to sort out problems/settings before they feel right & reliable, All comes down to regular riding & servicing I would travel anywhere on my A10 with no worrys!! long term ownership & many a mile will always inspire confidence. all the best Dave.

The brake plate stop is a snug fit.
I also chamfered the ends of the pads as well as centering the shoes by loosening the fulcrum pin nut, applying the brake and at the same time tightening the nut back up. The pin did move a little but after all this the brake still judders like crazy.
Cant think of anything else to do. *dunno*

Check to see if there's any grease/lube on the linings.

When you adjust the brake so the shoes are binding slightly you tend to get part of the revolution where the wheel still spins freely. If you can get it adjusted so it is on quite hard for part of the revolotion but turning freely for part of the revolution you know the problem is due to drum distortion.
