Title: Torque Figures
Post by: davewes on 22.05. 2010 20:05
I've just returned to biking and bought a 1958 Gold Flash. I'm changing the head gasket (cast iron head) but can't find the torque loading figures anywhere (including in the Haynes Manual). Can anyone help?

G'day Dave,
Welcome to the A list. Nice choice for your return.
35ft/lb is near the mark. Anneal the copper gasket (heat to cherry red and quench in water).
As e said, search reveals lots of interesting stuff.
Cheers

...and we should mention the need to use thick hard washers that are very close to the same diameter as the counterbores at each head-bolt hole. These will keep your alloy head from squashing around the head bolts.
