hi Everyone
Having just finished rebuilding my A10 plunger and feeling quite pleased with myself when I was interrupted by a local know all, who said that the bike was running to noisy for an A10 therefor I would need new exhaust pipes .
Removing the pipes and looking through the centre, I could see straight through with the exception of material linning the inner side of the wall of the pipe and I was wondering are the inner baffles missing, now I know nothing about exhaust system therefor could someone please advise me.

I've just fitted a new set of silencers from Armours. They are not exactly straight though - but almost. Looking down the end the bore narrows to about 1 1/4" and there is a drilled gauze type plate angled down wards. Mine is quite loud - reasonable when ticking over but gets loud when revved.
He probably works shifts and is just P***** off because you woke him up. There is a good example on youtube - Don Hall's test of the A10 Golden Flash so you can get an idea of the noise - sorry grunt.

Your description of the inside sounds exactly right to me. Buy him some ear plugs for Christmas.

Looks like you have the standard silencers which you can see straight through. The silencing is achieved by a perforated tube inside the silencer which the gases pass through and some of the noise is absorbed.
I have twin goldies on my SR and they sound awesome, although I do have understanding neighbours - one rides classic trials bikes and one rebuilds Manx Norton engines.
My reaction would be to polish up your silencers and tell your neighbour that you have fitted new ones at great expense following his "advice". Hopefully he will be too embarrased to say they sound exactly the same as the old ones.

Hi Richard,
I've got stickers on each of my pannier boxes that state "Loud pipes save lives".
At least folk can hear me coming and if anybody comments on the decibels I refer them to the stickers.
They normally develop a grin at that point and start talking about the availability of spare parts!!

My 61 Flash had in 61 straight through pipes apart from the small perforated baffle as stated by Stu, however that baffle was important as the standard check by her Majesty's constabulary was to stick a metal ruler up there until it hit something, if it went right up to the exhaust valves you were in for an earful, then a fine.
If you lived close to me I would come around to your neighbours with my Goldie pipes, (they are loud loud, in fact worries me a bit ) guarantee he would appreciate your pipes after
