Post by: Hubie on 18.12. 2010 06:29
Hello Chaps,

Can anybody tell me if A7 conrods and A10 conrods are the same?

Cheers,
Dave.

No, the centres are different. A10 is 6.468" - dont know about A7.

Thanks Goldy,

Dave,
If you go for a LJ crank, you will need rods with it. If you get a SJ crank, your rods should be OK.

Dave,
I've just measured my a7 rods.
They are very close to 6.0" centre to centre. (152 or 153 mm)
cheers

Thanks Olev,

I just need to confirm the same measurement for an a10 rod now!
Wanna buy a rebuilt A7 crank?

Cheers,
Dave.

A7 rods are about 1/2" shorter than A10 ones so you cant use them.

I wouldnt worry about rods just yet Hubie, get a crank first. I take it the bike in question is the one in your attached picture in which case you need a big journal crank. You can of course use a small journal crank but your bike should have a large journal and they are better. Once you have a crank then source rods. I have seen cranks on evil bay but the problem as always is postage.

There is a bloke in Adelaide who may be able to help, it is worth a phone call at least. Go to the link I have added and scroll down to Murray's Britbikes. Give him a call, you never know.

While looking for a Large Journal crank... It's also advisable to have measurements to determine how many grinds the crank has left. You dont want to buy one on it's final grind then have to spend £ & $ on getting it built up back to specs.

Thanks LJ

I have a couple of people looking for me as well as Terry from Townsville who has a couple of cranks as well.  I will be checking measurements before committing so that there is room to go.

Cheers,
Dave.
