I need a few of the nipples(?) as below to connect Lucas dynamo and regulator. Can anyone please help with what they are called and where they are available from.

Hi Goldseeker,
Dave Lindsley can provide these - no idea what their correct part name is but I got a set from him at the small cost; usually a number of 1st Class stamps! Contact him on: 01568 617750 or view him at www.davelindsley.co.uk - he's in Leominster.
He does mag and dyno and regulator servicing.
But just be aware that if using a repro (OEM - Indian/Chinese) regulator the hole that these 'bullets' push into are smaller than the Lucas one - hence they don't fit like most other repro crap! I ended up soldering mine - yet to find out if it works!

At both shops they are called "split clip", makes sense *smile*

I used to like soldering wires to these things but on two occasions I've found the wires to break off. I think it helps them to hold in better if the wire strands are bent over.

Paul Groff also sells them they are actually called "split bullets" and some times "Spring bullets"
The wire is poked through the hole, fanned out then bent back over the connector so that when it is pushed in the copper wire is sandwiched between the connector & the terminal hole.
They should always be removed with a pair of pliers by compressing the split and they will just about fall out.
lazy riders grab the wire, reef it out then wonder why all of the strands break off.

Ummm - only works if you've got an original regulator; I purchased a repro (foreign rubbish) which looks similar but the all important holes that the split clips are pushed into are much smaller (Arhhhhh) - so I resorted to soldering the wires to the split clips in the vain hope that it'll work. Cos when you push the wires through, bend them back and push into said hole - its too tight and cuts off the foldered back wire, fantastic!
So begs the time old question: why, oh why cannot repro parts not be made to the same dimensions as originals and why do M/C shops, dealers buy such crap. They can make the 2 retaining screws in the correct size - why not the holes for 'something rude' sake???? Beeping frustrating.
Oh well - what the hell.........one more thing to look forward going wrong?

Yes I have seen a few of those.
Some had holes the correct size for blue insulated bullets ( slightly loose for Lucas bullets )
The other one was the correct size for the smaller red insulated bullets.
We stripped off the insulation from the bullets on the latter and crimped them on the wire and drilled out the holes on the former.

The last time a mate used one of those repro regs, his armature burn't out from overcharging. No matter what i did with it i wouldn't readjust so it went down the tip!! I fitted an original one that does work!

Thanks for that piece of joyful news! I do have an orignal one but no idea whether it works - looks good but.... thought I'd start with a new repro to get the bike working and then swop over to the original one.
Is there anyway a numpty can check the old types out without taking a degree in electrical wizardary??
