Title: Price of Auto-Advance Pinion and Mechanism
Post by: RichardL on 22.06. 2011 15:47
Am I so far behind the times that I can't see this unit getting this price in my wildest imagination (YET!)?

20 bids & US $455.00 ? Madness *eek* but seems like near NOS condition, that's a +
...& got one laying here unused, time to sell...*smile*

edit, took the liberty of 'borrowing' a pic from the auction

OMG, off to the shed, I got three or four of these kicking about, partly dismantled. The last ones I've seen on ebay UK went for 40-50 quid!

Good lord! I got one of these rebuilt completely for NZ$40 (about USD35), what is the buyer thinking?

Hells Bells.
I have 2 brand new ones sitting in the box.
Better go out and move them to the safe.
Last time I looked you could still buy them NOS for about $ 250.
It was a toss up as to a new AA or an electronic ignition the prices being nearly the same.

Perhaps a money laundering scam?

There's some fool selling about three odd parts of an AA unit on ebay uk for £95! He keeps re-listing them over and over, they will never sell, - worth about £5 if you were desperate. You can buy a complete scrap one for 25 quid.

The last one I sold went for £75 and it was perfect.

At that price if we all put our spare parts together we would have enough $ to start up BSA again !! I think the buyer has overdosed on my pills, or tripping.
Cheers

Great idea, I'm in with two AAUs, a spare mag and a 650 alloy head if I can become the CTO of the engineering department.  *smile*

While you lot are being engineers and testers I will sit in the board room eating fine foods and drinking expensive wines and going for the occasional drive in my gold plated Daimler  *eek* Pretty much what the board did when BSA were still going  *ex*

Sorry Brian, will be a workers co-op. Don't want to go broke before we start. But I'd say you would have enough capital to be production super. Now who's got the hens teeth to be boss.
Cheers

On that note and In the true spirit of past workers co-op's I suggest we go on strike now ,to save time later, Bob

Sounds good to me TOPDAD, I'll meet you at the pub down the corner.

Here's one for you muskrat, a pic taken outside the BSA factory.  A pic of the BSA testers in the 50's. One of the fellows in the photo is alive and well and lives in Melbourne.

Regarding relaunching BSA, we'll need a Sunbeam dept. & I'll take Erling Poppe's job, of course.

I dont suppose you fancy getting a batch of those Rocket mascots cast using yours as a pattern ????
I have tried bidding on a couple of them on Fleabay *sad2*

Hi John!
Basically, why not, but I dunno whether there is enough interest to make it worthwile? Not in the sense of making a huge profit, but at least covering expenses.
IIRC Trev(inoz) has mentioned a friend who had them cast, maybe worth a try?

I would certainly be interested in one Markus if you ever decide to run some off. BTW, were they only fitted to export models? The reason I ask is that unless they were original fitments to the UK market there may be a problem with the annual test here regarding pedestrian safety, although the original "pedestrian slicer" front numberplates are still permitted, although not necessary by law.

The railway workshops in Newcastle were responsible for a large number of these appearing on a lot of "sudeo-rockets"
We actually had a member who made up a "suedo-rocket" decal for his rocket styled A10

And no you had it correct the first time.
Trev in OZ comes from near the afore mentioned railway ex-workshop.
I am a bit further down in Sinny and Musky is still further south

I do come from the area of the mentioned workshops and in fact spent my apprenticeship working in them.
BUT, I never saw any Rocket castings made in my time. They were large shops so anything could have happened in the "Foreign Order" department.
The castings that my friend made some time ago were done at the Tech College in the metal casting school.
This was a hobby course which the Government, in their wisdom, has shut down so that avenue is now closed.

I have a mate (bike rider) down here with an alloy foundry. If I could BORROW a sample to see how much it would cost.
Cheers

Musky,
I've got a couple of them but they are still unfinished, still rough cast from the sand mould so I suppose that they wouldn't be suitable.

G'day Trev,
the time you were typing I was running into the back of a tintop. Just home from hospital (5days).
A rough sand cast should work, my mate has a way of wiggeling the pattern in the mould to allow for shrinkage.
Cheers

Glad to hear that you are alright! Keep out of those hospitals, people die there!
I'll get in touch with you and send one down for your mate to have a look.
It is pretty rough at the moment as I haven't needed it yet.
