hi all, got given a dvr2 pos earth, is it right that the red wire go to the neg battery side or just to earth on frame cherrs

I went onto SRM website and browsed, notice they sell these DVR2s.
Are they worth getting?

Lately Ive been considering getting an original or reproduction Lucas RB-108 for my basket case and since Im starting from scratch considering getting a DVR2.

I've got DVR2's on quite a few of my bikes now, must have 6 or 7 of them and I could not recommend them highly enough. I have never had a single fault with any of them and they work perfectly.

The best thing with them is they are fit and forget.

If you have a plunger or rigid model they fit easily inside the original CVC unit box so no one will ever know its not the original thing.

A brilliant bit of kit. Highly recommended. My A10 runs 12V lovely now, charging from quite low revs (although the dynamo belt drive kit helps!)

I'm with Brian and T20 racerman. I have them supporting three different configurations of dynamo: one running stock 6v, one running 12v with standard Lucas armature and field coil, and one running 12v with fine-wound armature and field (both on AMCs). No problems. Same for a lot of friends.  SRM's eye for what's good in this world is confirmed IMHO by their decision to stock and sell DVRs.

While we are on this subject, Im curious as to whats the best way to convert to 12V electrics?
Ive read that you can have 12V electrics with a 6V dynamo (as long as it has a belt drive)

You can have 12 or 6V electrics with a standard chain drive dynamo - and a dvr2 unit works with both. The srm belt drive kit makes the dynamo spin faster, so it will supply 12V at a lower rpm than with a chain drive. If you do a lot of low speed town running with a 12 V system, with the lights on, your battery will go flat. The srm belt drive helps prevent this by running the dynamo faster. If this isn't the case, the dvr2 unit by itself will enable you to run 12V electrics without any problem. As someone who has run 6V and 12V with various different regulators, I can assure you that NOTHING I've come across is as good as the dvr2 unit. Get one - you wont be disappointed.
