Title: Which Clutch Disks?
Post by: Black Flash on 13.12. 2011 02:20
I have been sourcing clutch disks and ran into a couple of conflicting? listings that I hope someone will be able to clear up for me:
My Spare Parts List says 42-3262 (5 ea) for 60-63 A10   4-spring clutch

Rask Cycle listing has this:
Fits: BSA 500/650 TWIN LATE MODELS. Bonded clutch plates set of 6 Stock# 42-3262 American made  $ 87.24
It doesn't say they are Barnett plates but they do list sets for other models as made by Barnett

British Only E-Store has these:
01-42-3262       PLATE,CLT,DRIVE,A50,A65 1963-1965  $16.74 EA,  (5) for $83.70
01-42-3262KEV  PLATE,CLT,DRIVE,BSA,(KEVLER/BARNETT)
SPECIAL NOTE: SUITABLE FOR BSA A50,A65 1963-1965.  $13.80 EA  (5) for $69.00

Are the last ones, cheaper ones, not as good? What or who is KEVLER? I read that Barnett is a good second choice after Surflex?
PS: For US buyers British Only is offering 25% off and also free shipping for internet orders over $100. Thanks Gary

The part number 42-3262 is correct for the four spring clutch.

Personally I will only use Surflex plates, I bought a set of Barnett for my A10 a few years ago and after only about 5,000 miles the friction material started coming off the steel, very poor quality and I wont use them again.

There are probably a few suppliers of Surflex plates, they are not cheap but you have to pay for quality.

Here is a link to one mob who sell on evil bay.

Hi Brian; Thanks for the quick reply. The Surflex disks are now in the shopping cart. British Only has them and with the 25% off sale puts them at $132.85 US for 5. Brake shoes are next. (In forum's Frame area)
