Anyone know what this is on the rear of the timing cover?.
Looks a bit home made. Might have it off and see.

Hi Darren
"Normally" theres a blanking plug there
its where the hole for the rotary breather is drilled during manufacture

possible breather modification, although difficult to see any advantage

 I'd say Bill is on the money. I tried that once but there's too much oil splashing around there. Hence your PO re-plugging the hole.
