Hi all,
Thought I'd share how I solved the a65 qd set up for my a10 rgs cafe special (GF based). Had to make a new dummy axle, shorten the axle, make up spacer and a sleeve for the axle. Also had a new mount for the brakeplate strap made (still needs to be welded). Now I just have the rest of the bike to finish...

Well done *clap*. Doesn't your s/a have the chain guard mounts? Could have used them as brakeplate bracket.

Thanks! *smile* No, for some reason there are no brackets on the drive side of the swingarm ???? ???? I forgot to attach a picture of the mount I had made for the chain guard which is to be welded on as well. I'll post a picture of that as well. oh, and another quick note on the mod. The a65 outrigger strap needs to be massaged a bit as the kink in it doesn't correspond with the width of the s/a axle mounting surface. I'll post a picture when that mod is completed.

Another quick update.
Lug and mount now welded on S/A. Also pics of my hollow to solid S/A spindle conversion if anyone is interested in how I solved this particular mod. The original S/A spindle mounting hole on timing side had worn oval. They were both reamed to perfect roundness, then inserts with a narrow shoulder were pressed in.

sorry if i've got the wrong end of the stick here,but are you changing from a cable rear brake to a rod operated brake,if so the torque arm position affects the rod action,ineffect as the swingarm goes up and down this would tighten the the brake arm,so a flaoting brake plate would be a better mod,which would mean taking the torque arm to the frame.

Not sure what you mean by "as swingarm goes up and down this would tighten the the brake arm". The mod is to replicate a RGS halfwidth drum qd hub set up that I have adapted from an early a65. The mount for the torque arm is not floating on these swingarms, it is welded. Please correct if I am misunderstanding something.

Hi would you be able to give me details (sizes) of the dummy axel you made? as i am soon going to do this conversion any info greatly appreciated baz

sorry i didnt realise that you were doing a rgs style swing arm,just as an experiment,with the hub in the bike and the rear shocks not attached,and the brake rod and arm assemble,move the swing arm up and down and see if the brake pedal moves up and down.
on more modern bikes because of more travel in the back shocks the torque arm are longer so the brake plate in effect moves indepently,my apologys for the confusion,cheers andy

No problem *smile* *smile* Thought for a while I had made some horrendous engineering mistake.....
Baz, here are the details.
I attached an image of a drawing with mods (not engineering standards, but should give you an idea). It was a pretty straight forward mod. I'd make provisions for differences between your set up and mine though, so measure and remeasure *smile*
1. Main original axle. Shorten to 174 mm from end to shoulder. Machine off larger diameter axleplate support, increase thread to 41 mm length
2. Sleeve for axleplate mount. Takes place of original axleplate support that is now machined off, due to larger diameter a10 axle. Mine is snug fit.
3. Spacer. Optional. I am not running the A65 speedo drive. I suggest making it a bit larger OD than I did for more axleplate mounting surface.
4. New dummy axle. Main reason for new axle is that the shorter length won't give enough material around keyways for support. Therefore, the internal threaded hole is now shorter (42mm) and threaded top to bottom as opposed to original where threads start about 15 mm down the hole. That's it *smile*

Ok thanks for that its most helpfull what gearing are you going to run on yours IE engine sprocket and rear wheel sprocket etc?,thanks again baz

Sprocket on drum is 47 tooth. I haven't decided on gearbox sprocket yet. Some calculation needed. I am running a Bob Newby belt drive for my primary.
