Title: Stud and bolt specs?? (Barrel studs)
Post by: duTch on 03.09. 2012 09:44

This is pertinent to all headings, but for now, is there a source of information on -"Stud and bolt lengths?-", Part#/Size relationship -Anywhere??
In particular, Barrel (thick) flange studs, or a source of supply of longer ones, as mine don't seem quite long enough.
 They're 1-1/2" overall (5/8ww+~3/8blank+~3/8 BSC).
I'd feel better if there was a bit more in the case end, (3/4), and just a touch more BSC(7/16), that'd make it 1-11/16" O/A(42mm), does anyone know off-hand, if there's a part number that'll cope with that?? I've had a look but must've missed.

 Cheers,duTch

I think that this is what you are looking for http://stainlessbits.com/link12.html (http://stainlessbits.com/link12.html).
Print it out asap.
Stainless bits went out of business a few years back so this is a zombie page and will eventually dissapear.
Apart from that there are some errors & omissions which are easy to correct on paper but a bit tricky on some one else's pdf.

I got a set of stainless studs and nuts from SRM for my thick flange Barrel but I don't think that they are any longer than the originals.

Bit of Sherlocking makes me think the Ebay item is from these guys, Laverda fans but also sell BSA studs

Thanks guys,
I got on to 'Stainless-Bits', very good information,I thought I'd seen it before, but their studs are only 1-3/8, so scrolled up and down at speed to see what else was available(eyes went funny in the process), and I found P#E2674    70-2674, Triumph(?) Carby flange stud, so goggled that and came up with was turned out to be same place as Bills bit of 'Sherlocking'(well done) @

Their studs are a tad longer than what I have so,  Musky, sounds like the go, will get in touch, and best I start saving.

The only prob I had with them was two of their case studs were a tad short. When contacted they offered a replacement. I'm happy.
Cheers

No wuzzas, thanks for the tip , I'll make sure they know exactly what I need.
 cheers

Actually, I just discovered that my rocker box studs are not long enough to cope with head steadies as well. ie:> nut-stay-nut.<
Seems the stock iron head has half nuts top and bottom, but how does anyone with alloy head on plunger, deal with it? (never had steadies before tho)
Best option in my mind is a ~2-1/8" stud, but could be easier said than done....? I'm about to trawl the S/B list for sizes. The other one went to crap tho'

I use washer/stay/washer/nut with a tweak to the stay to get past the longer fin.
