Title: how many of you fella's have convinced the wife to let bike stay in the house
Post by: chicago on 18.09. 2012 12:05
hi fella's as the title almost say's, how many of you guy's have managed to convince the wife your bike should stay in the house.
i ask as ive now ran out of reasons to convince my missus.
heres a few of the reasons i have given her upto now but without a result.
1 the garage is really damp and the poor bikes old and might rust.
2 the garage is very insecure and those dodgy looking guys have been sniffing around outside again.
3 consider the bike more as a work of art, some people pay big money for automotive works of art.

any suggestions to convince her would be cool.
all the best fella's, chicago

Hahaha! Try with "over time you'll learn to love the petrol smell all over the house" and "those oil spills on the carpet are very artistic, aren't they?", and don't forget to regularly start it up in the living room, to make her understand the real value of the great exhaust note (and the wonderful exhaust fumes!). Hopefully someone here may have better ideas.

You have to explain what a valuable asset it is and how it has to be preserved.

e,

"Starting is important honey. Every now and then the oil that drains into the sump due to a leaky check valve buried in the crankase  needs to be moved back up into the oil tank by the pump that evacuates more than it supplies. You know what I mean?" (Note: I had to carefully consider my choice of words there at the end to avoid drifting from the technical issue).

I have three bikes in my dining room. My wife is resigned to the fact. The deal was that she fell in love with the house but I wanted to buy somewhere with a big shed or garage. She got the house on the condition that my bikes could occupy a small part of it. They are very happy there and even get decorated with a bit of tinsel as we sit next to them eating our Christmas Dinner!

I'm told "God loves a tryer" but I fear that this is a step to far even for any divine intervention,(!) and may result in you and the bike taking up residence in said damp and cold garage for the winter. If you do manage it however ,I'm going to be the first to congratulate you and then send you some very large jars of water !! we'll see what you can do with them .Best of luck, BobH.

No joy here, tried it once and although the bikes in the living room was a faint possibility there was no way she would agree to move into the shed.

The solution is easy - get rid of the wife. Thats why my BSA stays where I put it.

Old BSA's are like a wife; cranky, hard to get started, need lots of polishing to make them look good, but they dont take all your money when they leave.

Unfortunately the fairer sex can be a bit unreasonable with these matters.

A few years back my "better half" came up with the idea of building a new house so I headed off to the architect and had some plans drawn up. I took them home and showed her and she wouldnt talk to me for a week, I still dont know why................................................................

Did you really need to waste the space with a bedroom, Brian?

I did think about that at the time Trev but I thought it would be poor form on my behalf to not let her have some comforts, I didnt want her to accuse me of being unreasonable.

Some good ideas there, but Andy did you really give birth to the V50-In the kitchen..?
Trev, they all need their 'personal space'

Chicargo, remind her if she wants breakfast in bed, you have to be able to transport it !

Hi guys, great replies.

Nothing gets a conversation going more than, bikes, birds and beer. *smile*

I suppose apart form parking the bike in the sunroom; getting drunk drinking Guinness on the white lounge is also a 'no no' with wives.

Have fun and stay well.

Brian,

Please draw a 2m x 2.5m rectangle in the lower right-hand corner and label, "Brian's Bedroom".

Sometimes I'm surprised that I convince my wife to let ME stay in the house!

When you're single having a bike in the house (or even 3rd floor flat) is, in my experience, quite normal.
I've known it to be the case with some married couples, but usually it's been down to the lady having grown up around such circumstances and considering it normal.

still working on it fella's, think i might be making some progress now though as she has now gone from the "no way" attitude to "well im not saying it can come in the house but how would you stop the oil from dripping on the floor, and where would it go" think it might be in the house before winter sets in, result  *clap*

Let me guess? Quite expensive living room art since he is not allowed to ride his and must keep HERS clean, and polished?

Spot on Musky, thats a serious pair of dirt bikes.

I sold my CR500 eight years ago, just as well or I would have probably killed myself.

I am sorry to say this but I am completely under the thumb when it comes to bikes in the house!...................................(http://) At the start of the year this sort of thing was not allowed untill it was finished and ready for the road. The Bonnie is still there along with the 1947 British Seagull outboard engine I rebuilt! (The Bonnie needs some new big ends and mains sadly) ...............  She met the introduction of a 7' X 2' 6" hydraulic bike ramp with no more than a resigned shake of the head! Added to that, is a 3' X 2' 6" tool box, 2 drum kits and worst of all ME in the living room. Never mind! I was like that when she met me, so I blame her! wink2

Good one metalflake11, is that the lounge on it's end to make more room? Tell her you know a floor sander/polisher (what I do) to refurb the floor later.
Is that the speedo atop the magy?
Cheers

Hia Muskrat, yes that is the settee as we call it over here, on its end *grins* Sadly, I started the bike while it was on the new ramp and the castor wheels sunk into the floor! It'll take more than a sander! *whistle* ............Yes that is the old chronometric ''have a guess at the speed machine' on top of the mag. I used an old head steady bracket (upside down) on the back nut of the mag to mount it.  The cable is a tacho drive off an A65 which is just the right length to loop round the front of the engine and back along the top of the timing case.

This topic could, so easily, be expanded:

.....wives that have helped work on your bike(s)?
.....wives that only care about your bike to the extent that it helps your mental health/keeps you out in the shed/gives her an excuse to spend just as much money at the hair salon/increases her chances of collecting on the policy....

My answers: first question, "No"; the rest, probably yesses.

I do despair at times , are we so locked into the past that we can ignore to new technology that surrounds us .

Come on guys instead of looking for more profitable corners for the wife, get a fast broadband computer, build a website and let the corners come to your wife, I've seen them (purely by accident of course whilst looking for "unused singles in barns") *whistle*
