Hi
I was fixing the charging wiring on a friend triumph 6t 1961..
6v battery with alternator and one old 4fin rectifier...
I did the wiring and turn the key on...i had discharge on ammeter....correct
I kickstart engine and rev a little and i had good charge on ammeter..
The problem is that when i put a multimeter on battery shows only 6.1 without engine running and 6.2 6.3 when engine is running..
Is that charging ok or should i do something??
Thanks

I would start by replacing the old selenium type rectifier with something more modern, either a silicon bridge rectifier block or the A REG SIX device from Goff:

I will replace the old finned one with a new bridge rectifier that i have to see if the problem will solved

Sometimes the magnets in the stator can lose their magnetism and need re-magnetising but see how you get on with the new rectifier first. It should be charging at over 7 volts. Did you measure the voltage with the lights on as well?

I just find that his alternator is 12v..
hopefully he had store his old one(6v) so i replace it...but i couldnt fire engine cause it was too late..
i will check it tomorrow...
i dont know if the problem was the 12v alternator but to me it doesnt hear correct..

I fit the old 6v (3 wire) alternator and now bike is charging ok...
But when i run bike about 1km it start running on one cylinder...strange cause when i leave bike to get cold it run good again for 1km...then the same..
What do you all think is the problem??
Coil, condenser??
P.S. bike is distributor model.

Unlikely to be coil or condenser if only one cylinder was affected. You could swap the spark plugs and see if the fault moves to the other cylinder.

Sounds like a coil to me.
