Title: Speedo cable too long
Post by: Greybeard on 21.11. 2012 09:31
My new speedo inner cable appears to be about 1/4" too long. Is it safe to trim a bit off the end or will the square formed section come undone?

I think it will unravel Ian ,I seem to remember seeing a special crimping device which squose the cable into the required square and allowed trimming but was a long time ago, Venhill engineers specalise in speedo cables and should be able to advise 01306 885111 regards Bobh

Hi Neil
if it's no good and would be bin'd then I'd have a go at shortening it but use something high speed like an angle grinder with a cutting disc

PS what's your avatar friend called

Thanks for the replies chaps. I'm thinking about cleaning up my old cable to see if it's still ok. It's good to know that Draganfly will take unused items back without a time limit.

If you still have the original cable measure it and http://www.speedograph-richfield.com/ will make one to order. By the way, if the inner cable is to long then it is very likely to be a cable for a magnetic instrument. Chrono inner cables are a bit shorter. Often a magnatic speedo can be bodged and made to fit a chrono istrument after a fashion, but beware! The extra cable length will damage your chrono instrument.
