hi folks...i have just topped up my gearbox level and now oil is leaking from the speedo drive on the gearbox....has anybody else had this fault and how easy is it to fix !
-
oh I think a few of us have podered over this one.
A good dollop of clear silicon on the union before screwing the nut on helps but is not a complete cure.
using the correct washers in there might help also but I have never had time to have a good go at it.

sounds great to me....silicone it is .....thanks for the help bill !

Silicone rubber is the answer to only one problem - and it's not BSA speedo drives.
-
I did not say it was at cure, but it does slow down the leak.
And I'm sure Silicon has more than one use, ever looked at a home aquarium - the glass is held together with silicon and nothing else.
A smear of it on a gasket helps if the joint faces are not 100 percent ,and being clear it looks better than the blue stuff

thanks bill..there are loads of uses for silicone,,,i used it to stop my headlight rotating from the engine vibes...the clips were really not up to the job

What bike was that on Mr Frankenstein ?
-
hi that was on my a10 flash....it worked a treat !

My A10 gearbox had a leak around the speedo drive as well. Enough to make large stain rings on the old carpet in the garage (posh or what? ;)), and so that the oil needed topping up a couple of times over the year. Then I replaced the speedo cable and the leak became a smear. It was leaking through the split outer covering of the cable *idea*.
May be of use to someone. *smile*

The primary application of all 'kitchen' tools is to assist those of us who need heat (ovens), drip trays (pans and trays), work surfaces when it's cold outside, dish-washers for cleaning castings, etc.
The secondary benefit of such household extravagance may prove to be that there is food on the table and clean plates, although that depends on the skills of the alleged 'owner' of these gadgets. Happiness or the lack of it on the part of the party of the second part should never deflect from the mission!
I can only write that while the Management is out, and of course I'll recant the instant I'm caught. Not sure if Herself has any applications for silicon, although I suppose in one or other of its forms it could be transformational, physiologically speaking . . . .

looks like i will order a new speedo cable as well...mine looks like its been on since the bike was new....i dont think i will suggest any silcone adjustments for my better half as this might result with a hospital stay !
