Incredible, I saw that a while back. There are some smart cookies out there with too much time on their hands. Should put it to good use and make new A7/10's for us.
Now look at the other end of the scale  http://vincelewis.net/bigengine.html
Cheers

Now look at the other end of the scale
100,000 hp at 102 rpm  *smile*

edit: crankshaft weighs four hundred tons  *smile* x2
The crank in the miniature v12 is probably like 40 grams.

That's a big motor! No problem though if you follow these basics.
Always put it in 2nd or 3rd gear and push it up the road before starting it for the first time.
An end feed crank conversion is available for these at S.R.M. but the postage and packing fees to Wales are prohibitive.
The kickstart version is no longer available, and as such they recommend a full re-build for the dynamo, a DVR2 regulator, belt drive to give you the extra 20% at low revs, and a battery of no less than 10 amps per hour capacity for reliable electric starting.

"The kickstart version is no longer available"
Luv it. Wonder if they use a starter motor (have to be a thousand HP) or compressed air to turn it over?
What would the power out put of the mini be? I'd guess at 0.001 hp.
Looked like it was getting a bit of valve bounce at revs.
Cheers

Had a chance once to look into the innards of a tugboat engine.
Was really impressed by the pistons the size of buckets.
Not so sure if I'm still impressed now......

That engine went into the biggest container ship afloat, the 'Emma Maersk' owned by the Maersk Shipping Line.
It IS started by compressed air muscrat, but only rarely because they don't ever stop it unless they have to. Even when loading/unloading (Max 48hrs) the engine is needed to power the generators, so it runs throughout. On the 1st  Feb this year while negotiating the Suez canal, a bow thruster failure led to the engine bay being flooded to a depth of 18 metres and the ship was towed into Port Said.
0.001hp isn't a bad guess. Stronger valve springs, domed pistons and big valves might give you 0.0012 though!

and is does SRM warranty still insist on the use of a straight oil for this ? >:D

Of course Bill!...........And no using a bloody oil filter either! *smile*

I think I'd still use a chook wire filter. Don't want particals bigger than golf balls getting through!
Would the V12 be strong enough to drive an oil pump?
Cheers

Credit to that bloke's skills and patience, really, but I am positively sure this "engine" doesn't actually run on fuel and produce power, but rather "only" is a functional model driven by compressed air, or more likey CO2 cartridges. You can actually see the valve lever in the wooden socket at the end of the video to turn it on and off.
Still, impressive bit of craftmanship! Both of them.

Hi there, MG. Nice to see you here again. Yes, the v12 was about the craftmanship, not so much the final product.

Hi E!
Yep, still hanging around here every now and then, if and when time allows (which is not very often these days...). But good to see the forum growing and blooming in it's new surroundings!
Best, Markus

That's good > your new company must be doing fine!
About the forum, some hard (mental) work, lots of time spent (+ a dose of miracles) & the switch to the new domain\server\webhost went well, and members & visitors have found their way back here.

Here's other small 87cc V12 running on methanol and nitromethane mix.

Muskrat, I meant cartridge in line type. You still have to use the chicken wire filters....... As you say golf ball size bits going round the engine is no good! *beer*
May I add this?
