Still trying to understand your questions, your frame does not look like this ? > http://a7a10.net/BSA/bsapics/RR56engine.jpg , and you need to weld on the lugs to the frame? (am no swingarm specialist, maybe there were some models with no rearset possibility ?).
Please post a picture of the bike so we may see what's going on.
Thanks

OK it's the riders rearsets. Take a look here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tQIz4NEXNY at about the 1:20 minute mark, or some pics here just click on the pic for a slide show http://www.silverstoneauctions.com/1963-bsa-rocket-gold-star The lug is welded where the loop meets the frame on the inside bottom corner.

Hi, thought this pic might be useful...

Hi there, my Super Rocket has rear sets, but not fitted as standard by BSA. they were fitted through a hole drilled into the swinging arm frame gusset. I have seen this method used on many BSA singles and twins as it saves welding the frame tube.
-
Hi Pirate
Mounting through the gusset and reversing the gear lever seems to be the easiest fix but how did you tackle the brake side?
I see no evidence of a cable on the pic so I guess you are running a rod brake. I thought a rod brake was fitted to older SRs but I see that your rev drive comes from the oil pump which I thought only happened on the later versions *dunno2*.
I have just looked at my SR (1959) with a cable brake and the brake pedal would be in the way if a rearset was mounted through the gusset as you have done on the gear side.
It would be interesting to see a pic of the other side.

Hi there Lawnmowerman,
Here is a picture of the brake lever side. Its just a shortened brake lever operating the rod and a passenger footrest placed in the gusset .
My bike is a long way from standard for any year - it has been changed and modified and rebuilt to be what I had when I was a boy.
I like the look of the rev counter coming from the oil pump, the mag take off looks like an after thought to me, but in saying that it looks great on the singles. Just taste I suppose.
-
Ah that explains it - not such an easy job with a cable brake. They are bad enough with a full length brake pedal and need all the leverage possible to make them work. May be a trick of the light but it looks like a bracket has been welded in for the brake pedal pivot with the footrest going where the brake was.
Yes I agree that the brass rev drive does look a bit of an afterthought but at least it looks nice polished up.
Not many "standard" bikes about now and personally I do not think it matters - the main thing is that you like the look of the bike and enjoy riding it.

Hi All,
Ted,
I'm hoping to drag the RGS out tomorrow to take the headlamp brackets off for a member here
I'll try and photo the LH side then close up

To tell the truth I have never looked that close to see how the rear brake was set up. When I get home (I am OS at the mo) I will have a look and take some more pictures. It would not be hard to make the footrest stem the shaft for the brake pedal and have it all coming off the frame gusset.

Hi All,
Attached pics of the lefthand side showing the footrest and prake pivot hole

Hi John
I see a rod for the rear brake. Did all RGS models have a rod brake and a left handed brake hub or was a cable brake with a right hand brake plate used on later RGS models?
I was under the impression that the later SRs that came with cable brakes as standard were modified as RGS variants by the factory and also by Eddie Dow (I believe). Just wondering if they were converted to rod brakes or whether a cable brake setup was used and if so how it was arranged with rearsets.

Jim,
All RGS had the rod operated LH brake, same as Goldstars.
