I don't fancy running around on rubber with an old-fashioned square profile. Has anybody any recommendations for an A10 from the choice of modern tyres available?
Thanks.

I think Avon still do them, I have one on my 1954.

Thanks but I do not want a square rear tyre. Any advice about round ones?

Avon SMs aren't actually square when they're new - just when they're worn out. If you buy new ones (check the date code) they'll be made of modern rubber compound. I actually like the feel of the bike on Avon Speedmaster and SM.

Avon SM square? well I have one fitted to the rear wheel of my bike, and it is far from being square. I have a combination of Speedmaster and SM and they give me no cause for concern. SM tyres are totally different to the old Dunlop Universals they were most definately square treads.

It seems that I'm upsetting people by using the word square and perhaps that was too harsh. However, I'm used to modern tyres and would like to fit them to the A10 when it gets going.

Dunlop K70, Dunlop K81/TT100, Avon Roadrunner ?
...and (in advance) thanks for the introduction post in Bikes, Pictures & Members ;O)

Avon Roadriders are popular.

If you don't mind a non classic look then Avon M20 , M21 are excellent tyres

I agree with your view of SM I never liked them now or back then, speedmaster was ok though

I have now fitted Avon AM26 Road riders to my 3 BSA's. They feel like their looking for corners,.
Cheers

Even with a K81 on your rims you will be digging trenches with your foot rests before you run off the sidewalls.
Bridstone battle axes are good in Europe but too soft in OZ where it gets hot & we tend to do big miles.

I don't anyone loves a 2000 mile tyre, even small Europe miles.

i'm thinking about getting an Avon SM rear and speedmaster front for my A10. what was the popular performance tires back in the 1960's? Avons? Dunlop 71?
