Hi All,
I have not had my beloved Golden Flash long but just wondering how to check and fill the oil level in the gearbox...maybe a daft question I know but cannot see anything in the manual ?
There is a projecting bolt on the back of the gearbox presumably this is the level plug but tricky to use it to fill through - or is that the only place to fill too?
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks
Geoff

Think that is the level plug Geoff
I only have S/A bikes but presume the Plunger g/box is similar
The stud you see in the pic is the level plug, fill through the oval plate on the outer cover (held by two screws) until oil comes out of the level plug, bike on Centre stand

Geoff
Bill is spot on the plunger is exactly the same to fill as the swinging arm model

Geoff when you tip the oil into the gearbox tip it in very slowly. The oil has to flow into the main section of the gearbox and if you tip it in too quickly it will flow out the level plug before it has gone into the main part and you will get a false level.

Hey you guys thanks for those tips - you are all spot on. I drained the gearbox and it was a bit silvery with metal filings so I am glad I did it. I also found that the gearbox only takes about 2/3 of a pint not 1 pint as the manual indicates .
Brian Your A10 looks a lovely machine - single saddle and chrome tank same as mine !
Thanks again.

The bike in the pic is a 1950 A7 Star Twin Geoff, one of the longstroke twin carby jobs. I've added a better pic of it.
I've got a plunger A10 as well though.

Thats a real beauty . Those Twin Stars are meant to be pretty nippy presumably that has an iron head too. Mine is a 1952 model which I only bought last year but just love it - especially the magical exhaust note - sounds much better than your average Triumph. Will dig out a pic of mine shortly and post it.
