Title: The ashes
Post by: Topdad on 10.07. 2013 15:10
1st test today ,really like cricket and against the aussies hopefully as good as it gets particularly if we could poss win or just not be shamed by "our lot"!. Already heard the rumblings about pressure in our media and remembered the following quote via Mike Parkinson  about Keith Miller the post war aussie test cricketer ,when asked about the supposed pressure of test cricket his reply was ,"pressure" " I'll tell you what pressure is ,pressure is a Messreschmitt  up your idiot.Playing cricket is not "  Ho for characters like that these days , no such chance . Just posted to brighten the day hope you all don't mind, (good luck to both sides provided we win well it is the ashes !! ) BobH.

Oh for some old fashioned commentators who would let you enjoy whatever sport without stupid smart A*** totally inane remarks.

I couldn't watch Murray's final few games for the media's remarks, but then I just don't like today's media ( maybe you guessed)

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi.
I thought England started sending it's best of everything over here in 1770.
Saw a graph on morning tv combining the results of GB v AU in cricket, R League, R Union, Tennis and Olympics. AU just in front.
It's our turn for the Ashes.
Cheers

I liked the Merv Hughes sledging quote; to a struggling English batsman - "you've got a bit of sh*t on the end of your bat mate ... no, other end"

Ouch!!

(Oh for the good old days)
BBC commentator on Dennis Lillee bowling to John Edrich after he'd hit him in the groin: "And it's Lillee to Edrich, just one ball left".

I agree , how about  the famous botham commentry , when he just managed to step over the wicket , Jonners said something like " oh yes He's just got his leg over " and then the other guy Aggers ,in the box disolved into hysterical laughter which caused  Jonners to breakdown as well,( normal service will be resumed once we've got new commentators etc !!) Musky,Not the way I wanted to see it end ,shame, would have been great to have your lot knock the s*** out of our "superstars"  what a waste of english wickets in the short period of play yesterday .Obviously the captain and peterson believing there own press again rather than playing !( plus bloody good bowling for a change ) I'd rather you'd had got a win and we do it properly in the next 2 games but not to be .Bloody english weather !! as you say, Regards BobH.

Hope those umpires never have to ride my BSA at night.... That would mildly challenge their light meters.

Hope all of us have bikes that tick over a little quicker than an English over rate.

Hope we all have more dignity (and less rain) in our rides than our fond friends can muster out of that win.

The real loser in that match was the ashes themselves me thinks.

Gavin.

Hi guys, yes musky it’s always puzzled me how the Aussies never pass up a chance to have a dig at the kiwi’s , no offence to you guys just my observation, cheers

Ha but there's not many more down there to have a dig at, we have four nations here to fall out with not to mention the French.
Used to be fun when they had an annual footy competition but they stopped that (don't think it anything to do with the Scots celebrating by attempting to take Wembleys Goal posts home )
There again we pinched their Stone of Scone (sp)  for several centuries

One thing we do know is that come November it'll be a different story ! Should it rain though you'll never hear the end of it . I'd rather call the tour .... "To be continued ", BobH.

Bring back Merv Hughes.
yep one thing cricket does seem to do is breed a few characters

One of my favorites Freddie Truman had a few stories  grow up around him, including his answer to Raquel Welch when she remarked about the width of Freddie's posterior
" well lass it takes a big hammer to knock in a big nail "

Yeah, typical of him  right to the point. Does anyone remember his explanation to Parkinson as to why He'd never tour in Pakistan , he simply replied " the buggers cheat " and that was that , wouldn't get away with that today, anyway back to some work, BobH.

The over 70's (age) had a Test at the same time this month, and the Aussies lost that too!

Mind, the Aussies at least all had the same uniform on, unlike the Poms!
