A friend of mine mentioned that a worthwhile modification for an A10 is to run it on a mikuni carb
Has anyone done this and if so has it had and positive effects on the bikes power, running etc?
And if it has what carb do you actually used for the conversion?

I haven't needed to move from Amal on my RGS so can't help with details BUT a mate of mine with an A10 has one on his bike and the conclusion we all came to when he was relating his Mikuni problems to us recently was to get it off and go back to the correct Amal.
I have no doubt others will extol the virtues of Mikunis on A10s, just thought I would say they are not always 'plug and play' conversions and I can't think why I would want to use one anyway.
PS I'm not a Luddite and have modern bikes with all the latest electronic gizmos, but the Amal works great for me.

I have a Mikuni on my SR and can only recommend it *smile* *smile* *smile*
A couple of suppliers offer kits, this would be infinitely easier than trying to adapt one from another make or model
as there aer a huge number of different jets / needles etc made by Mikuni

Fitted a 30mm Mikuni on my 59 RR and is the best replacement part I ever fitted. Not plug and play as a flange adaptor was needed but bike has never gone so well. Put it in a Dyno to check the mixture and was fine. However, tried to fit Mikuni's on another make of bike and just could not get them to run. Did have one strange problem. The bike would pop and bang until warm. Found the cap screws holding the carb on were just a little too long and the flange joints leaked until warm. Just needed to trim off a few thou.

All goes to show what a varied bunch we are on this forum! I had the issue of putting a carb on my super rocket project and the only real options I considered were monoblock or 10TT9, and I know which I prefer!
For me fitting a mikuni is a step away from fitting disk brakes. But each to their own.
But nothing to do with being japanese, just a matter of wrong period.

Absolutely, each to his own. Sticking to "Standard parts" is a generally a safer/simpler route but if there is a better part, i'd sooner fit it. New technologies and materials etc should enable us to get our bikes better than they were. As for disc brakes, if they provide "Safer Brakes", why not? Just my thoughts. ATB

I used to pick mikuni carbs up at auto jumbles 28 mm of rd 250 s with a bit of fettling they are good. I have a lath to make a adaptor . But I think you can buy the adaptor separately now.
