If bike is wet sumping would you drain oil out for Winter lay off or leave and drain out at end of Winter before riding?
Thanks

It was recommended to me by an engineering friend that you shouldn't leave used engine oil in over winter as it's full of contaminants. He carries out oil changes on his old Harleys before putting them away.
Alternatively you could start the bike every couple of weeks which is my personal preference.

Hi Peter
If you leave it over winter before draining you will probably have to drain the primary down to the correct level too as it will find its way through - at least it does on mine!

I agree with Ethelred. With fresh oil and starting it every two or three weeks to stop things gumming up. And if started it should reach normal operating temp to dispel any condensation.
Jim, your crank seal is shot. My plunger does that but it doesn't have a crank seal.

I'd think it makes sense to change the oil before winter but I'd be concerned about starting up a bike unless I was sure the engine will get up to operating temperature. Unless the oil is up to working temperature, I would be concerned it doing more harm than good. ATB Keith
