the bike i have just got is 1959 mot exempt does anyone know if you have to still apply for it like you do for tax *????*

Hi Derek,
Do a Google search for V112 MOT Exemption Form and follow the links.
You should eventually find the form which you can download. It's basically a self declaration that your bike is pre-1960 and you will be able to produce it if ever you get stopped by the police.

did mine at our local Post office, they didn't ask for a form either, when I mention to the lady that it no longer needed a MOT she said "yes I know it says so on my screen"

If you mean get a sort of certificate without an actual test, then no.
