Title: Where do you ride?
Post by: RichardL on 30.08. 2014 19:11
Hello,

I suppose the first part of this post should be to say that my bike is back up and running and seemingly well. The back story of my problems getting to this point is for another topic. Right now I just wanted to share a photo from one of my favorite places to ride near my home. The photo is of Wilson Hall at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, IL Fermilab played a big role in the discovery of the Higgs Boson, providing core research and, I believe, manning the local control center for the Large Hadron Collider when the discovery was mde. Fermilab is a big piece of land with its own herd of American Bison and its own village to house visiting scientists. The Tevitron accelerator is mostly out of use now, since the LHC is so much more powerful, and powerful a tool.

You can see the rear wheel of my bike in the lower-left corner.

Great to hear she's on the road again Richard. No time to stop for pictures, just keep riding till winter closes in.
Cheers

Dutch,

Ah, you remember that very shaky clip. I intend to try another live stream with shock mounting and a wind screen over the mic. I think I'm a bit obcessed with Fermilab. Wish I could work there, but I didn't bother to get a Phd. Not that they weren't doing important work back then, but I think the Higgs Boson discovery came after my video (I'm taking no credit for the discovery).

Yup, I remember the darnedest things..was a good sightsee, but remember the wind noise outdoing the sound of the bike....you bein' a soundie an' all, but I guess Vx sound is (a little) diffo to studio/stage sound
Guess I better do some research on the Large Hardon dummy Crashtest.... *conf*

Thanks Rob, just put my passport application in. Should be there in person next year.
A re-run of your video with better sound would be great Richard.

This is where I ride. Not as high tec as a Higgs Boson particle, but a huge version of the atom of which our bikes are built.
Plain old iron...

Google Goggles let me know it's the Atomium in Brussels, from the 1958 World's Fair. Chances are, your bikes were there at the time.

That's why nobody dared invade Belgium since it was constructed. Imagine the bomb we could make out of that *smile*

Richard, never thought of that but highly possible.
I was there to in '58. Well, to be honest, it took another 4 years before I was born but my mother was one of the visitors back then, so technically speaking I was there to... ;)

Thought about this post when got to picture one, as I live on a peninsular between two rivers and the sea, so Deben to Orwell today.
Where do I ride well I always start of going inland.

Really nice pictures. Couldn't resist checking the map. I now assume the two rivers are the Deben and the Orwell. Of all the places in the UK I have not been to, your peninsula is one of them, but I have been to Leigh-On-Sea for a visit to Leigh Classics and the waterfront looked a bit similar. I have to assume you know Leigh Classics and have visited there or done business. Next time you're there, tell Andy that Richard from Chicago says hello. Had a great time there talking with Andy and his buddy Clanker.

Although UK based I tend to cover more miles on the other side of the channel. I have been out to this place on the A10 which may well already be known to the Belgian contingent:
