Title: idler / camshaft pinion
Post by: Russ on 26.11. 2014 10:06
Have just stumbled across a small problem I have, or maybe not?
For the future rebuild of my 51 A10 I have in my parts box an Idler pinion numbered 67-336 and a Camshaft pinion numbered 67-338. I am unable to locate 67-336 listed anywhere while Draganfly has 67-338 listed for an A50 / A65. My parts book,(A7 / A10 1949 to 1953) lists the Idler pinion as 67-335 and the Camshaft pinion as 67-337.
What pinions do I have and are they compatible with my A10.

Thanks Guys,
Russ

Trev, If you happen to read this, I think you gave me one of the pinions I have but can't remember which one.

Here's what's been working on my A10 plunger, stamped nr's are unclear.

From left to right:  44   49   22,  & from the photo check the placement of marks.

And some interesting reading > http://www.a7a10.net/forum/index.php?topic=789.msg5017

The critical issue is to make sure you haven't got a rogue gear from a longstroke which have the same number of teeth but timing marks in different places. There are some good pictures of what you should have on the Cheshire BSA website  www.cheshirebsa.co.uk (http://www.cheshirebsa.co.uk)

Thanks Guys,
Excellent photo a10gf I will check mine against yours.
beezermacc you started me on this as I followed your previous post to the cheshirebsa site where I discovered my pinions had different numbers.
I will now check the number of teeth on mine and position of timing marks. If they are right I should use them, however, I'm a bit anal and will probably start a search for pinions with the correct numbers as listed in the parts book. I will then know that those two gears in there have the right numbers. Happy!!

Russ,

My parts book lists 67-335 as the idler pinion with spindle and key for 56/57 swingarm with 67-336 as the pinion, only.

Thanks Richard.

Does anyone know if the pinions I have are compatible with my 51 A10 Plunger.

The pinions on all the post-longstroke A7's and A10's are all the same.

Russ,
Don't panic, the number on the part is usually not the part number but one off.
