I have searched what feels like 1000 threads and still have no awnser. I've heard " no tighter than .030" .007, and any number of other. Got the box apart and have .018 now and am deciding if I need to make new thrust washers or not

I don't have the "correct" answer but I'd fly with 0.005".

0.005 is what I aimed for too, and think I settled on about 0.004".
And at risk of stating the obvious, don't forget the shim inboard of first against third Sliding gear needs the chamfer against the spline. ..
