Oh to be young again. Wish they had those things when I was a kid.
Cheers

*smile*

I did my best to shorten my life using a 50cc, but failed (by tremendous luck), but somehow the notion of danger, pain & burial slowly got hold, so survived on the later bigger cc's.

As my dear old dad used to say to my mad mates and me  "youth is wasted on the young " as you get older you begin to realise but you can't change nature ,we were all immortal once or so we thought , BobH

Which things Muskie? The bikes, the thick padded barriers, or maybe the umbrella girls?

Ha. All of the above.
The newest bike I've owned/still got is a CB1100F. Good for 250KPH tops. The fastest thing I've ridden is a 2004 R1 at 285KPH down the M4, still had 1000 revs to go, but a bit too much traffic.
Cheers

Maybe this is now the official "Nothing to do with Motorcycles..." topic, so let's see if this gets some interest.

A few of you Brits will probably be close enough to airshow locations to catch this historic happening. Wish I was.

I'm going on the Sunday. I am rather excited!

Last time I saw a Vulcan fly, along with the Victor and the Valiant; the three 'V' bombers  I was probably less than ten years old at the Farnborough air show. Also saw the Flying Bedstead; the prototype of VTOL aircraft.

last Vulcan I saw was at RAF Leuchars , can't recall if it flew over or took off but whichever extremely low run over the runway then pointed the nose towards heaven and gave all four full wellie, the earth moved for everyone that day.
Same visit everything came to a halt as two Phantoms were scrambled to greet some soviets doing the coast run (which they still do in the same old contra rotating prop Bears - forgive the use of NATO names, never could remember make and mark Nos, twas a TU somthing)
I live and used to work sometimes up in the Cheviots, on more than one occasion looked down on a Vulcan flying up a valley

I thought it was partly due to an announcement back then that we were parking them all up that led to the Argentine incursion anyway?

think that was the fisheries protection ships for a nearby Island, anyway maybe it did give Argentine the idea we were not interested or could have been the fact Thatcher tried to sell or at least lease the Islands back to Argentine two years previous.
Go on tell me I'm a sceptical old f***

reference to Avro Vulcans last flight

I'll say no more as I think we're surely verging the edge of subject tolerance *whistle*
and my remark could be construed as a tad political (although intended as an observation rather than a condemnation)

I get it. You are suggesting that the Argentines may have inferred weakness by the appearance that Vulcans had been parked or laid up, or the like. I guess they were wrong.

OK, I can get off it if it truly is off-topic of "nothing to do with motorcycles".

I think that as much as anything it sat between political issues in both the UK and the Argentine. It might be postulated that the Argentines wanted to divert public opinion from economic issues at home, and there was a perceived view of weakness in the UK’s resolve to hang on to things out that way. Then as they moved in it was a good ‘excuse’ for the UK government to display due purpose of mind to react and subsequently make themselves electable again. Ultimately a sad and sorry business all round that people died for.

Accepted this is a sensitive subject and the above is only my view/understanding. No intention here at all to cause upset.

I remember seeing my one and only Vulcan which did a fly-by at an event in the local park, we were on a hillside a mile or so from the park so the plane was quite low, then it lifted it's nose and hit the afterburners...... It rattled our teeth it was so loud.... a sight never to forget.
