I recently dropped the A7 and I have nearly finished fixing her-again!. Since the accident(front wheel tucked under and spat me off) she smokes quite badly. I am hoping that when I have given her a good run it will clear. Is there any reason why this an issue ie possible internal damage?. Unlikely but who knows?
thanks Andy

G'day Andy.
While she was laying down oil from the crankcase may have found it's way up to the rockerbox and is being sucked down the valve guides DAMHIK. It should clear within a few miles. Is she smoking both sides or just one? Was the motor still running while she was on her side?
Cheers

The motor roared briefly while she was on her side-she wouldn't give up *smile*. Difficult to assess which side as I have a 2 into 1 exhaust.

G'day Andy.
Bit hard to tell from 1/2 a world away and not seeing/hearing it. Check the plugs for a dark one, do a compression test, have a real good listen with a stethoscope/screw driver.
If all good take her for a gentle ride for 10 or so miles and see if she cleans out. As you said "possible internal damage?. Unlikely but who knows?".
Cheers

I had brand new plugs in and afterwards the drive side plug was dead no spark. So perhaps a fair quantity of oil swamped that side. I need to collect my straighten footpegs before I can ride her :!

unfortunately with today's plugs a dead plug could be just that - committed hari kari so makes diagnosis a matter of chance to some degree.
Muskrat's advise is good as usual, I'd change plugs first though to a good used set first
Engine roared on it's side, probably lean/rich mixture with carb turned 90 degrees

I would prefer to think she wasn't going down without a fight *smile*. I have already put in some used plugs and she starts first time and all that so a ride is not far away

Well all is well with the old beast the smoking has stopped. Now all I have to do is relax and not tense up so much. Its always difficult after an off for whatever reason :(

Great news! *smile*

Ah started smoking again. I had the bottom end rebuilt and rebored so I suppose it could be the valve guides-bugger. Especially seeing as she smokes worse after sitting idle for a couple of days(weekend).

Could be. You'll just have to ride her every day ;)

That's just what I am doing, 13 miles each way to work. *smile*
