Title: question about swingarm
Post by: Happy Hans on 21.10. 2015 18:07
Hi,

I have a question about the difference between a swingarm for the ariel hubs (till 1957) and the later swingarm for the full width hubs (1958 on). What are the differences?
Will a later rear wheel with its distance piece fit into an earlier swingarm without problems?

Thanks, Hans.

The main difference is the size of the holes for the rear wheel spindle which, for Ariel hubs, is much bigger.

My a10 has ariel hubs so if you need more info I could get the tape measure out...the axle diameter is pretty big....on the left side in particular.

Hello Hans,

Ariel Hub axle is 1 inch.
Full width is 25/32 inch = 19.98 mm

cheers Klaus

Why do you want to change ?
The Arial hop and Full with hup brake the same ( next to nothing ).

The Arial hup is pretty, specialy if polished.

The Arial hub is pretty, especially if polished.

If converting, You need a slide bushing in the oval swingarm adjusting space.

Thanks guys for your help,
I don't want to change my hubs Viking. It's because of my frame hunting thing, i've seen several frames for sale and I need the information because I want the correct frame and swingarm which will fit to my full width hubs. Usually the frames are sold complete with swingarm. The frame and swingarm of my bike is from 57 and won't match with the hubs that I have and beside that they were badly bent.

Hans.
