Straightening a steel rim?

I have a ding on one rim rail about 1/8" th deep at it's worst and a few inches long in a rim that is hard to replace. There are no bike rim straightening firms where I live. 1/16th would be as good to "true" as needed. Someone hit something rounded like a kerb. There is no twist to the rim.

I seem to remember people used body jacks, heat and or copper hammers to take out dings in rims.... any one have any tips?

I've fixed a flat section one one side of the rim, from memory about 150mm long and 10mm deep but it was a mission and I had to make a one off jig. Is that what you have or it a dent in the rim edge? Pic might help.
