18 or 19 inch wheels
« on: 13.07. 2016 23:31 »
I am about to order new rims and spokes and have a choice to make on size.

As far as I can tell, its easier to find 18 inch tires, and you have more choices. It would also lower the bike 1/2 inch, not that big of a deal but there it is. Bad parts, the speedo would be off, and its not stock.

19 inch or 18 inch, what other things am I not thinking of that could sway a persons choice here?

It may be possible to get an 18" tire with diameter very close to the narrower 19". Depends on aspect ratio. For instance, I think that a 4.10 x 18 is very near the same circumference/diameter as a 3.50 x 19. Not sure if the wider tire will work on an A10. I'm sure someone who does know will chime in here.

  • Last had an A10 in 1976, in 2011 it was time for my 2nd one. It was the project from HELL (but I learned a lot....)

I thought the 4.1 width tyre (eg tt100 or whatever they are called now) is of lower profile than the standard full profile 3.5 width tyre, so rolling diameter ended up about the same *dunno*

I think you may have to go to 18x4 inch to get back to standard diameter, I think there are already posts on whether this possible.

I went 19" front and 18" rear on the cafe for better racing rubber selection. I have 19" back and front on the '51 and have the Avon road rider 100/90/19 universal (front or rear). http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle/roadrider

I just ordered them in 19 inch, I decided keeping the speedometer close around here is more important than tire selection.

I live in a small, quiet town of 1800 people. For some reason we have 5 full time, and 1 part time police officer. These people need things to do, and I dont want to be one of them. *smile*
