Engine and frame number check

Evening all

My Flash shows a frame number of GA7-22103 which I understand from the listings as being 1962.  Documents from 1976 show an engine number of DA10-17292, which is also 1962 by my reckoning.  However, the engine was changed at some point and I think it's 1961 - number DA10-13957.  I'm not too fussed, but I'm guessing this means they're not strictly 'matching', although I do know that BSA did some strange things with numbers and years at times.  The bike is listed as being first registered in Jan 1962, which would mean it was probably manufactured in 1961 sometime anyway.

I agree with your thoughts regarding the numbers you quote.  My information shows that you have a 1962 frame with a 1961 engine.  The engine number on your documents is from 1962 so that is probably the engine originally fitted when the bike was new.

BSA's model year always started in August the previous year so 1962 models were available from August 1961 to July 1962.  That will account for your query of the January 1962 date of registration.
